Watercolor Painting Class
Learn to use with watercolors with teacher and local artist Robin Q. Franczyk. Robin encourages all levels of artists to take this class and bring home a painting of your creation. Crafts & Combat: A Renaissance Workshop
Here ye hear ye! Join us for a fun day of historic renaissance crafts. Lords and ladies of all ages will have the chance to try finger-loop braiding and pottery stamping. Attendees can also make their own board game with card stock and craft a chainmail bracelet. A limited number of spots will be available for longsword lessons for aspiring knights so sign up by calling 508-324-2700 starting September 1 (must be 12 and up). Southworth: Friends Event - Exploring Historical Fiction: Inspiration & Education with Janis Robinson Daly
Join the Friends of the Dartmouth Libraries on Saturday, September 19, at 2:00 p.m. to hear award-winning author Janis Robinson Daly as she shares how genealogy research inspired her to write historical fiction. She will also discuss how the genre educates readers seeking ways to embrace life-long learning. The event will include readings from Daly's books, book sale, and signing. The presentation will be held at Southworth Library.Inspired by an unknown fact about an ancestor discovered through genealogy research, Janis Robinson Daly wrote her first novel, The Unlocked Path, which celebrates pioneering women doctors at the turn of the 20th Century. Its sequel, The Path Beneath Her Feet, honors the work of the American Women’s Hospitals in rural America during the 1930s. Daly's most recent novel, Under Two Flags, retells the true story of a Boston woman, Josephine Marzynski, who travels to Berlin at the height of the Great War to study opera. Do you have a story to tell? Everyone does. Learn how to write your story and acquire the skills and confidence to share it. Learn tips to make your life experiences into interesting reading. We will cover how to organize your story and writing. Joining a memoir writing group can provide many benefits including structure, active discussion and advice and instruction. Wilks: Aphasia Reading Group (Zoom)
Aphasia is a communication disorder that can affect reading (as well as many other aspects of language).The group will read 1 book over a series of weeks, and break it down into easily-managed segments.
